Gerald Alston was born November 8th, Henderson, North Carolina. As so many others Gerald learned the trade in church. He started out professionally as a member of the New Imperials. As luck would have it, the Manhattans needed some audio equipment of his band and overheared Gerald rehearsing. Almost immediately they asked him to join them replacing George Smith as frontman who died earlier . He remained their lead-singer until 1987 shortly after which his solo career was launched with his first self-titled solo album. Four singles have been released from his first album with You laid your love on me being the most succesful one commercially. Three albums followed in 90, 92 and 94. After his last release Gerald Alston has maintained a low profile.
