John Whitehead was born July2, 1948 in Philadelphia. Together with Gene McFadden he began writing songs for the likes of the O'Jays. They worked as producers and writers for the Philly Soul label of Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff eventually taking part in creating what became the Philly Sound. In 1982 John and Gene went solo with John later on ending up in prison for tax evasion issuing his 1988 solo lp entitled I need money bad. The two reunited in the 90s. May 11 of 2004 John Whitehead was shot dead at the age of 55 whilst making repairs to his car on a Philly street. |
