Lalah Hathaway was born in 1969, Chicago, Illinois. Being a daughter of father Donny Hathaway and his talented wife Eulaulah she almost seemed destined for a musical career. In 1990, as she was 21, she signed to Virgin and released her self-titled album from which the amazing Heaven knows was released as a 12". The album displayed a young artist, capable of singing but at the same time developing her own style. It took her four years to release the follow-up album, A moment, which critics claimed to be containing material not worthy of her talent. In 1999 she returned to the music-scene with former Crusaders keyboardist Joe Sample.
