Shirley Jones was born into a musical family. Her mother, Mary Frazier Jones was one of R.C.A. records's first gospel artists. Shirley and her sister Brenda sang with their mother and were later joined by younger sister Valerie. Which eventually led to forming the legendary Jones Girls. After the Jones Girls disbanded, Brenda got married and Valerie (who tragically died on Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001) went to college. Kenneth Gamble heared about the disbanding and called Shirley to see if she was interested in becoming a solo act. Soon she was working on her first solo album. Her first release Do you get enough love went to #1 on the r&b charts in August 1986, followed by I'll do anything for you. Later that year she released her first solo debut album entitled Always in the mood, with the choon Surrender. Around the time the album was produced Shirley got married. With you, her second album, was released in 1994 and contained a remake of Nights over Egypt.
