Taral started out her career as an actress and already starred alongside Robert DeNiro, Sean Connery and Whitney Houston. She landed her first record deal with Motown in 1996. Her debut album entitled "This Time" featured several Billboard charting hits with "Distant Lover", a Teddy Riley production, officially being the first to be released. Her contract with Motown ended after Andre Harrell, former president of Motown, was fired. Taral returned to acting after this.
